Request:

WORKERS OF SPECIFIC OCCUPATIONS:

This residency category in Costa Rica includes construction workers, domestic employees, and any other worker who has specific and unique skills for a particular job.

The application must contain:

  • Signed and notarized letter from the employer stating:
    1. Reasons for the residency request and the activities to be undertaken by the employee in the country.
    2. Full name, nationality, profession, exact address, and telephone number of the employer.
    3. Fax number or valid address to receive notifications.  
    4. Full name and surname, nationality, date of birth, exact address of where work on foreign workers, housing conditions, in cases where it is possible to provide and indication of time spent in Costa Rica.
    5. Date.
  • Prove of the financial means to afford to pay the wages of the employee.
  • Certified copy of valid passport of the worker.
  • Worker's birth certificate stating the name of the parents, due legalized by the nearest Costa Rican Consul, and legalized by the Foreign Affairs Ministry of Costa Rica. If it is in a language different from Spanish, translation into Spanish is required.
  • Two recent passport-size photographs.
  • Fingerprinting, processed in the Police Record of the Ministry of Public Security.
  • Criminal records certificate stating that the applicant have not been convicted in their country of origin or the country where s/he has resided for the past three years, due legalized by the nearest Costa Rican Consul, and legalized by the Foreign Affairs Ministry of Costa Rica. If it is in a language different from Spanish, translation into Spanish is required.
  • Certified copy of identity card or residence of the employer, certified by a notary public. In case of a legal entity, certification and copies of articles of incorporation of the Company is required.
  • Stamps: ¢125 for the application and ¢2.50 for each additional page.
    Consular registration of the foreign person in the embassy or consulate of their country of origin in Costa Rica.
  • If the application for residence is submitted in Costa Rica, it must be presented receipt of bank deposit to the government for the amount of US$200 (two hundred dollars or its equivalent in colones) to the account242480-0 of the Banco de Costa Rica, by account of change of immigration status.
  • Complete the filiation form: Our personnel will guide you to complete the form with the requirements of law.

    Note: Special categories cannot be processed if the foreign person is staying illegally in the country.
